Description

The Ross is a scenic paragliding site, best enjoyed on thermal days. It is occasionally used and offers a pleasant walk & fly experience. To get there, drive through Lamlash and turn onto the Ross road. After 600 meters, turn left into the entrance of a forestry road and picnic site, where you can park. The parking coordinates are 55.5221 N, 5.1464 W. From the parking area, walk further up the tarred road, cross a cattle grid, and pass a cottage on your right. About 20 meters past the cottage, take the path on your right to reach the top of the hill. The takeoff point is located at grid reference NS 003 304. The site is suitable for E or NE wind directions and has a height of 311 meters. Top landing is straightforward with plenty of space available. For bottom landing, use the field beside the road at grid reference NS 014 299. Be cautious of power lines running along the road, especially since the field is elevated above the road. Avoid landing in this field if there are sheep during lambing time. Alternatively, there is a picnic site across the road, about the size of a football pitch, which can be used for landing.
