Description

Sundhope Heights is a paragliding site located in Scotland, UK. The site is occasionally used, particularly for NW soaring in the bowl. Site Status: Open Location Info: - Grid Reference: NT340239 - OS Landranger: 73; Peebles, Galashiels, and Selkirk - Latitude: 55.50580 - Longitude: -3.04564 Wind: - Direction: W - NNW - Best Direction: NW (W in bowl) Height: - ASL: 512m (1680ft) - Top to Bottom: 272m (890ft) Road Access: From the A708 Selkirk to Moffat road, head west of Yarrow Feus. Take the single track road and continue across the bailey bridge over the Yarrow Water towards Sundhope Farm. Parking: - Grid Reference: NT336250 - Contact the club and/or farmer prior to visiting to confirm parking details. Do not block the road or any gates. Take-Off: - Grid Reference: NT340239 - Enter the site via the gate to the south of the new barn. Walk around the edge of the field and take the second gate to access the hillside. Choose a suitable route up to the cairn and launch from an appropriate location. Landing: - Grid Reference: NT336250 - Land at the bottom of the hill. Avoid landing in any cropped fields. Flying: The site has been flown in the past but was recently rediscovered, so detailed flying information is limited. The bowl allows for westerly flights but performs better with a bit of north. The main face is more suitable for NNW. Hazards: - Check NOTAM and CANP, especially if flying mid-week, as the area is used for low-flying military exercises. - NW is a 'wave' direction for this area, so be aware of changing conditions. - In the evening, the sea breeze may make the site unflyable. If this happens, consider going to Bridgend. Notes: - Do not land in fields with stock or grass being grown for hay or silage. - Avoid using the site during lambing season (late March to late May). - This is a sensitive site; please contact Wingbeat or the landowner before flying.
