Description
The Singlie paragliding site, located at grid reference NT 357219, is open for flying. It is situated in the Peebles, Galashiels, and Selkirk area, with coordinates 55.48750 latitude and -3.01770 longitude. The site is at an altitude of 1082 feet (330 meters) above sea level, with a top-to-bottom height of 420 feet (130 meters). The preferred wind direction for this site is WSW.
Access to the site is via the B7009 Selkirk to Eskdalemuir road through Ettrick Bridge. Parking is available at grid reference NT358213, near the south end of the hill. Ensure you do not block the road or gate when parking.
To reach the take-off point, enter the site through the gate and walk up to the cairn. Choose an appropriate location for launching.
This site is not frequently flown and is considered a walk-and-fly location, suitable for soaring in medium to strong wind conditions. Due to its lower altitude, it can be an option when conditions are stronger elsewhere. However, be aware that the wind can be funneled down the valley, making it feel stronger on the hill than expected.
Hazards to note include the potential for stronger winds on the hill. It is essential to check NOTAMs and CANP, especially if flying mid-week, as the area is used for low-flying military jet exercises.
Before flying, please check with the local club. Avoid landing in fields with livestock or crops intended for hay or silage. Do not use the site during lambing season, which runs from late March to late May. Always park sensibly and avoid blocking any gateways or tracks.
