Description
Located at an altitude of 2015 meters, this paragliding site in Gröbming, Austria, is regularly used and offers good cross-country (XC) flying opportunities. The primary launch direction is north, near the wind measurement station, just a 3-minute walk from the south launch. Pilots often start in a northerly direction but tend to fly on the sunnier side if they gain enough altitude, keeping in mind that the responsibility for assessing risks lies with the pilot.
The site is suitable for paragliders and is an approved training area. The launch area is a grassy slope below the summit on the north side. During winter, flights below 300 meters above ground level towards the west should be avoided due to wildlife conservation areas.
Thermal conditions are excellent towards the west (Dachstein) and east (Kammspitz, Grimming). Pilots should switch to the usually leeward south side with sufficient distance from the ridge. The site record is 202.2 km.
Wind information is available via LPD radio frequency 433.125 MHz, which updates every 4 minutes from the Stoderzinken summit.

The site is a starting point for panoramic, thermal, and cross-country flights. The take-off and landing areas are straightforward. The local flight school offers site briefings as part of their Flightpark Dachstein and thermal and cross-country flight courses. On Saturday mornings, a cross-country briefing is available at Schloss Moosheim with prior registration.
The area is known for its strong thermals, making it a popular spot for long flights. However, turbulence can be an issue, especially with valley and south winds. Leeward turbulence can spoil the flight experience on the south sides with east and north winds. Avoid flying in strong east winds.
Before flying, pilots must purchase a start and landing card at the guesthouse near the toll station (€3). Launching outside the designated areas and winter flights towards the west are prohibited due to wildlife conservation.

Access is via the Tauernautobahn A10 Salzburg - Villach, exiting at Ennstal, then taking the B320 (B146) through Radstadt and Schladming to Gröbming-Winkel. The mountain is accessible via a toll road. Taxi services are available from the toll station:

- High alpine launch, rarely used due to the need to navigate around the 'Fels' towards the southwest after takeoff.
