Description
Located in Oregon, USA, this paragliding site offers a launch height of 1863 meters with a height difference of 370 meters. It is regularly used and provides good opportunities for cross-country (XC) flights. The valley below offers many landing options, making it a versatile spot for pilots.
The site record stands at an impressive 169.0 km, showcasing its potential for long-distance flights. However, due to the steep terrain, small uncleared launches, and lack of developed landing zones (LZs), a minimum USHPA rating of P3 is recommended for pilots.
For those interested in the Southeast Bowl launch (6100'), continue driving past the peak turn-off and the observatory. At a sharp right turn overlooking the desert floor, park your vehicle. From there, locate a faint trail and walk east across the hill to find the cleared launch area. This launch faces southeast and is mostly used in the morning. It offers significant relief and features that can be advantageous for flying. Note that retrieving pilots from the bottom can be challenging, so consider hiking back up to your car after your flight. The ideal wind direction for this launch is between 140-180 degrees.
