Description
The launch site at Pfingstegg, located in the Bern region of Switzerland, offers a unique paragliding experience. Situated at an altitude of 1410 meters, this site is occasionally used but has potential for some cross-country flights, particularly around the valley. The launch site is a steep grassy area south of the mountain station, accessible via the Pfingstegg cable car followed by a 5-minute walk.
This site is particularly advantageous for afternoon flights and is also suitable in the spring due to its relatively low altitude. The launch area is small, accommodating a maximum of 2-3 gliders at a time. Pilots typically launch in the fall line towards the valley floor, with thermals often rising along the slope, slightly from the left. The start area is short, so early aborts should be considered. Thermals and soaring can be initiated directly in front of the launch site, extending up to 50 meters to the right and approximately 300 meters to the left along the slope. Initially, flights must stay close to the terrain, with more distance gained in the rocky areas above.
The use of the site is free, managed by the local club Jungfrau Tächi. Normal flying times are from 14:00 to 19:00, with thermals starting around 15:00. The site is generally flyable except during Föhn winds. It is excellent in Bise conditions and northern stau, with some light side winds from the left. The site is also suitable for acro flying as pilots can reattach at a lower altitude. Rapid climbs are guaranteed in Bise conditions.
