Description
Located in Wallonia, Belgium, the Maboge paragliding site offers a unique flying experience with a takeoff height of 412 meters and a height difference of 170 meters. This site is occasionally used, primarily for local soaring, and while limited cross-country flights are possible, they can be challenging due to airspace restrictions.
The site features a well-maintained grassy slope suitable for launching up to two wings at a time. It is essential to respect the site by maintaining cleanliness, silence, and preserving the vegetation. Before taking off, pilots must read the FBVL site panel.
Access to the site is straightforward. From Maboge, take the national road 860 towards Berismenil. At the entrance of Berismenil, turn right onto a small asphalt road. After 2 km, turn right again and park in the small parking area.
The landing zones are medium-sized meadows equipped with windsocks. Pilots should consult the FBVL panel at the takeoff point and be cautious of horses in the area. During haymaking periods, only the first landing zone is authorized.
The airspace is relatively clear for the first few kilometers from Maboge, but pilots need to be vigilant when approaching the Malmédy - Coo area due to specific airspace regulations (TRA28A, TRA28B, Elsenborn EBR04).
The site is open all year round and is suitable for paragliding and delta gliding, although the approach can be difficult for high-performance delta wings. The site is reserved for FBVL members or members of a foreign federation, and individual aerial liability insurance is mandatory.
Facilities include parking 30 meters from the takeoff point, tables, and benches. However, pilots should be aware of potential dangers such as turbulent winds over 20 km/h, lateral winds, barbed wire fences, and the Ourthe river, which can be hazardous during floods.
