Description
The takeoff site is located in the Jura protection zone, with a beautiful launch meadow above Untergrenchenberg. This area is regularly used and offers good cross-country (XC) potential. The launch site is an ideal, moderately steep alpine meadow in a forest clearing.

The launch site is situated in a nature meadow just below the starting area, home to over a hundred rare plants. Please take care of this terrain and stick to the hiking trails. Landing in this area is strictly prohibited due to nature conservation. Visiting pilots are asked to pay a start fee at their discretion.
Caution: Dangerous turbulence can occur in front of Bützen during north wind conditions, strong Bise, or west wind. Do not launch under these conditions. Instead, take the bus from Grenchenberg at the following times:
- Sunday: 9:40, 11:40, 14:40, 16:40
- Saturday and Sunday: 11:40, 14:40, 16:40
- Wednesday: 14:40, 16:40

Flying at Grenchenberg is a unique experience, with a 100-meter high and one-kilometer wide rock wall providing a breathtaking backdrop.

Drive to Untergrenchenberg, then walk east on the hiking trail to the launch site.

Flying at Grenchenberg offers a unique experience with its impressive rock wall.
Flying Area Grenchenberg North:
The north side of Grenchenberg is suitable for evening thermals and soaring flights during north wind conditions. The height differences of around 700 meters provide long-lasting flight enjoyment. Sustained updrafts allow for easy altitude gains and various route options.
Difficulty:
Avoid flying during north wind conditions, strong Bise, or west wind due to dangerous turbulence in front of Bützen.
Restricted Zone on Grenchenberg North:
The eastern areas of Montoz are inhabited by capercaillies. To protect this natural habitat, a total flight ban is in effect on the eastern side of the Buement launch site (Grenchenberg North) in June when the chicks hatch. Adhering to this rule ensures the chicks can search for food undisturbed and have a chance of survival. Compliance helps with nature conservation.
