Conditions Optimales
Description
Hauptstartplatz Emberger Alm, situated at an altitude of 1735 meters with a height difference of 1142 meters, is renowned for its ease of access and exceptional flying conditions. There is an alternative launch site (SP II) at approximately 1900 meters. Please note that launching is only permitted at designated sites. If the main launch area becomes crowded, take a break and wait, or hike up the mountain for about 20 minutes.
This area is one of the most popular cross-country flying regions globally, often bustling with activity. However, once airborne, the crowd disperses. Familiarize yourself with the local rules and regulations, ask the locals for advice, and always remain courteous.
Region: Greifenburg, Austria. The site record is an impressive 1747.5 km. The best flying season is from March to August, with optimal cross-country conditions in April and May. Snow may still be present in May.

Getting there is straightforward via an asphalt road, toll-free, or using taxis from the landing zones in Greifenburg and Berg. Taxi contact numbers are available at the landing sites' information boards. Wolfgang from Almgasthof Fichtenheim offers free transport for his house guests from the landing site.
Launch Sites:
1. SW Embergeralm at 1740 meters: The main launch site for paragliders and hang gliders, featuring a steep meadow launch area within a large forest clearing. Accessible by private car or taxi.
2. SO Embergeralm at 1860 meters: A grassy slope, less steep, requiring a 15-minute walk from the main launch site. Accessible by taxi only. Be cautious of west winds due to the risk of a lee rotor.
Landing Sites:
1. Greifenburg: Located beside the 'Upper Drau' camp at the lake, 610 meters above sea level, after flying over the village and its high voltage line.
2. Berg: Situated next to the inn 'Altenmarkt,' north of highway B 100, accessible from the station in the town of Berg. Altitude: 630 meters, bordered by a road and a row of trees to the east.
The Emberger Alm in Greifenburg is a top flying site in the Alps, offering excellent infrastructure and scenic, thermally attractive flying conditions. The area hosts numerous competitions and cross-country flights annually. The Drautal valley provides ample landing opportunities for beginners, with flights into the Pustertal being possible but challenging. The main meeting point is the Fliegercamp at the landing site, with shuttle services to the Emberger Alm launch site and other nearby launch sites.

The Fliegercamp offers a large meadow for setup and launching, with flights only permitted in headwind conditions. Beware of turbulence in west winds. The main landing site is directly at the Fliegercamp, with caution advised for power lines. The campsite, featuring a lake and high ropes course, is ideal for families. Numerous guesthouses and inns are available in Greifenburg and the surrounding area.
For transport, the Dünhofer family operates reliable and regular shuttle services to the mountain at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM, with additional services on busy days starting at 9 AM. The transport fee is €6.50, and the launch fee at Wolfgang Sattlegger's site is €5.50.
The broad valley with many meadows offers ideal conditions for first-time cross-country flights. However, be cautious of the Stagor mountain, which can be turbulent, especially with north winds exceeding 30 km/h at 3000 meters altitude.
Special notes: Launching from the summit meadows is prohibited due to the nature reserve status.
