Conditions Optimales
Description
The launch site is a steep, rocky meadow below the garden restaurant, suitable only for experienced pilots. Access is via the Iltios cable car from Unterwasser.
Special Note: Be prepared for thermal activity immediately after takeoff.

There is a large flat meadow for layout, but the launch is steep and rocky. From the cable car station, head towards Hinterrugg, then descend left along the hiking trail towards Lüsis until you reach the meadow on the right side of the path. It’s a 6-minute walk from the cable car station. Winter access is not possible; it's better to launch from Hinterrugg during this season. Elevation: 2200 m.
Flight Conditions: Thermals are active from the morning. Cross-country flights in the Toggenburg region are quite feasible, allowing you to reach Säntis, Hohen Kasten/Ebenalp, or via the Rhine Valley to Vorarlberg. In winter and early spring, soaring is possible on the southern slopes.
Tip: Start from Säntis and fly to Unterwasser, Chäserrugg, Maschgenkamm, and Weesen, depending on weather conditions and cable car costs.
Difficulty: High altitude conditions can be challenging with strong bise and föhn winds. West winds can also quickly become too strong for safe flying.
Soaring: In bise conditions, you can start northeast of the cable car station. In winter, a launch site is prepared. Soaring along the ridge is possible as long as you can withstand the cold. Knowledge of launch techniques (rosette, reverse, possibly cobra; accelerator) is advantageous.

The launch sites are generally demanding, with some very short runways. Year-round access depends on the cable car schedule. Transport includes funicular and cable car, with a possible 20-minute walk to some launch sites.
Hazards: Short runways require adequate wind for safe takeoff. In summer, thermal rotors can form on the southwest edge. Avoid launching in föhn conditions.
Wildlife Protection: No flying at the east launch site from May 14 to June 14.
Fees: A voluntary start/landing fee of 5 CHF per day includes a free descent with the cable car in bad weather. If the fee is not paid, the descent must be paid separately.
Evaluation: Chäserrugg is a challenging flying area. When conditions are right, it offers one of the most beautiful flying experiences with unique views of Säntis, the Alpstein, and Walensee.
