Description
Located in the Matese region of Italy, this paragliding site is frequently used and offers good cross-country (XC) flying opportunities. The takeoff point is at an elevation of 1175 meters, with a height difference of 780 meters, making it an easy launch site. The official landing zone is in the municipality of Cusano Mutri.
One of the main takeoff points in Matese, it is ideal for long-distance flights. Its south/southeast exposure and unique topography allow for early morning launches. The takeoff area is simple, spacious, and grassy.
Bocca della Selva is considered the most beautiful takeoff in Matese. Situated at 1180 meters above sea level, at the foot of Monte Mutria (1900 meters), it offers excellent thermal flights with significant potential for long-distance flying. The ridge's exposure allows for flights with winds from the southeast, but launches are often possible with winds from other directions as long as they are weak or at the beginning of thermal activity due to the site's unique microclimatic conditions. The protection offered by Monte Mutria to the north and the foothills to the southwest ensures strong thermals in the Cusano Mutri valley, with altitudes reaching from 2000 to over 3000 meters on unstable days. Notably, two distance records were set from this takeoff by Leone, covering 204 km in a straight line (July 20, 2004) and over 147 km in a triangle (August 18, 2008).

To reach Bocca della Selva by car, take the A1/E45 motorway (Milan-Naples) and exit at Caianello. Then, take the S.S. 372 Telesina towards Benevento and exit at Cerreto Sannita. Follow the signs to Cusano Mutri and Bocca della Selva.
