Why Go to Norma?
Norma, located 50 km southeast of Rome, Italy, is a highly regarded paragliding site known for its reliable flying conditions and proximity to the Italian capital. This site is celebrated for its extensive takeoff and landing areas, consistent and favorable thermals due to a local microclimate, and excellent cross-country (XC) opportunities. It caters to pilots of all experience levels, from beginners to the most seasoned, making it an ideal location for those looking to learn or enhance their thermal flying skills.
Flying Conditions
The flying conditions in Norma are notable for their reliability, which extends even into the winter months where thermal conditions remain pleasant. This reliability makes Norma a preferred training ground for pilots from the Alps when their flying season concludes. The site's microclimate ensures good and constant thermals, providing an excellent environment for both learning and practicing advanced flying techniques.
Advantages
One of the key advantages of flying in Norma is its suitability for a wide range of pilots. Whether you're a novice looking to get your bearings in the sport or an experienced pilot aiming to push your cross-country boundaries, Norma offers conditions that support growth and exploration. Additionally, its weather reliability throughout the year, including winter, ensures that pilots can enjoy flying without the long off-season typical of more temperate climates. Norma, Italy, is one of the top paragliding destinations in Europe, particularly suitable for less experienced pilots. The site offers excellent soaring conditions and easy flying, with good cross-country (XC) potential. Toplanding is possible, and the site is flyable all year round, especially in winter, spring, and autumn. However, pilots must respect the airspace regulations, particularly the CTR of the nearby military airport in Latina.
The takeoff area is located within the archaeological site of Ancient Norba, at approximately 430 meters above sea level. The launch site is spacious and safe, with a large top landing area. The official landing zone is situated at 30 meters above sea level, adjacent to the beautiful WWF oasis of the Gardens of Ninfa.
To use the landing zone in the valley, pilots need the Norma flycard and must adhere to a specific corridor. The flycard costs 15 Euros per year and allows access to the shuttle service. The corridor is a narrow strip with a maximum altitude of 150 meters AGL, and only registered pilots with the local club or school Aero Club Union can use it.
Norma is easily accessible, located about 45 minutes from Rome's GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare) and 15 minutes from Latina. The town itself is perched on a cliff, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the Gardens of Ninfa, the Circeo, the Pontine Plain, Sermoneta, and the Lepini Mountains.

Weather conditions can vary, with strong breezes possible during midday. East and southeast winds are particularly dangerous. Pilots are advised to avoid flying beyond the vertical of Doganella di Ninfa to prevent entering the military airspace of Latina.
For accommodations, consider:
- Hotel Ristorante 'Del Colle' in Cori
- Hotel 'Villa del Cardinale'
Enjoy your flights and respect the historical and natural beauty of Norma.
