Ehrsberg-Köpfle

Paragliding map of
The Ehrsberg Köpfle launch site, located in the Wiesental region of Germany, offers a variety of paragliding experiences. With an elevation of 897 meters and a height difference of 356 meters, this site is frequently used for soaring and thermal flying, with occasional opportunities for cross-country flights. However, top landings above the launch site are not permitted, so it's best to consult with local pilots for guidance. The best time to fly here is during the summer, particularly for south to west launches after 3:00 PM. North launches are especially suitable for soaring. The launch directions include South, Southwest, West, Northwest, and North. The site is accessible via a shuttle bus directly to the launch area, thanks to a special permit. For those driving, from the landing site in Kastel, take a right onto the B317, then turn left after approximately 400 meters and follow the road through Wühre to Ehrsberg. At the village fountain, turn left and follow the road out of the village, then turn left again after about 600 meters to park in the former quarry directly below the launch site. The remaining 25 meters of elevation can be covered on foot via a path on the right side of the quarry. Be careful not to damage the pasture fence when crossing it. Special considerations include avoiding disturbance to cattle at the launch site. Abtsrodaer Kuppe Wasserkuppe Nordost

Paragliding map of
The Abtsrodaer Kuppe launch site, located in Hesse, Germany, is a popular spot for paragliding enthusiasts. With an elevation of 910 meters and a height difference of 188 meters, it offers excellent soaring conditions and the potential for cross-country flights. Top landing is straightforward, making it a favored location for many pilots. This site is particularly well-suited for soaring and cross-country flying, especially in northeast wind conditions, which can lead to strong thermal developments. The launch area is next to a tree with a windsock, and it is one of the main flying sites on the Wasserkuppe. The terrain has been used for aviation since the early 20th century and is considered one of the most beautiful training slopes in Germany. It is ideal for ground handling and soaring. However, pilots must adhere to specific rules, such as respecting model aircraft and trainee pilots, and being mindful of the glider and motor flight operations at Wasserkuppe. A launch director is usually present on-site. For more information, you can contact the Wasserkuppe Flight Center at 06654 / 7548 or visit [Wasserkuppe](http://www.wasserkuppe.com). The launch site is managed by the 1st Drachenflugclub Wasserkuppe, with services provided in cooperation with RDG e.V. Pilots must fly only in the designated blue-marked area after launch and avoid overflying the red-marked airspace reserved for model aircraft. Landing should be done on the main landing field, and ground handling is allowed only in the green-marked area. For any assistance, you can contact the launch director or the shuttle service at 0173/6551646. Parking is free at the Papillon Flight Center or on the public parking lots of Wasserkuppe. With a club membership card, access to the Abtsrodaer Kuppe parking lot is also available. After launching, pilots should head towards the landing area or catch thermals to the right. Communication is done via PMR Channel 1.1 once 100 meters above the launch site. For more details, visit [RDG e.V.](https://rdg-ev.de/abtsrodaer-kuppe-n-no/). Note that mixed flight operations with model aircraft occur at this site, and the area is divided to ensure smooth operations. Delta and paraglider pilots should use the landing field at the foot of Wasserkuppe towards Dietges. A shuttle service is available on weekends from April to October. Avoid flying at dusk and be cautious of the power line between the launch and landing sites. In case of strong northeast winds, consider flying at Kreuzberg in the Bavarian Rhön, which offers better conditions with less traffic. Parking is available on the public lots at Wasserkuppe, and a permit can be obtained from the gliding school for parking directly at the launch site. -HG Tuniberg Galgenberg

Paragliding map of
This site, located in Breiscounty, Germany, is occasionally used and is exclusively for hang gliders. It is a medium-difficult site with a height of 262 meters and a height difference of 80 meters. The site is suitable for soaring, and occasionally cross-country flights are possible. It is a strong wind area, so only pilots with a 'B-Schein' license are allowed to fly here. There are seasonal restrictions, and it is crucial to follow the site regulations. There are two cliff launches: one facing WSW and a slightly flatter one facing SSW, both exclusively for hang gliders. The site offers a beautiful soaring ridge with consistent west winds, but the launch is very challenging. For more information, visit: [DFC Südschwarzwald](http://www.dfc-suedschwarzwald.de) Site Regulations: - Access is via the B 31 and only on designated access roads. Traffic signs must be observed. - Pilots must not enter the vine rows at the 'Upper Launch Site.' Please remind others of this rule. - Pilots must present a 'B-Schein' with cross-country flight authorization, a hang glider with cross-country identification, and valid insurance proof. Site orientation is provided by the site warden. - Paragliding is prohibited due to safety concerns. - Equipment (hang glider, harness, reserve parachute) must have visible certification marks. - A reserve parachute is mandatory despite the low flight height. - A variometer is the minimum required instrument. - The maximum number of pilots flying simultaneously is 4 at the south ridge and 6 at the west ridge for safety reasons. Risky maneuvers are strictly prohibited. - Landings on or near the B 31 are forbidden to avoid alarming drivers. - Respect the existing vegetation at the landing and launch sites to avoid conflicts with farmers. Report any damage to the site warden immediately. - Keep the launch and landing sites clean, even if the litter was not caused by you. - Suitable wind direction indicators must be installed at launch and landing sites. A first aid kit must be available. - Launches are only permitted when a flight director (launch assistant) is present to manage flight operations and initiate immediate measures in case of accidents. - There is an absolute flight ban during the grape ripening and harvest season (mid-September to end of November), including the 'Lower Launch Site.' Flying Tips for Tuniberg: - The Tuniberg site is only flown in strong winds (5m/s+), so caution is advised despite the 80-meter height difference. - When setting up the hang glider, be careful to avoid tipping backward, which could result in damage. - Discuss the launch procedure with the launch assistant. - At the edge, ensure both wings are equally exposed to the wind. Be cautious with multiple launch assistants at the wing tips. - During flight, keep the glider nose away from the slope. Newcomers should avoid full circles and opt for figure-eights instead. - The best lift area is in front of the slope as altitude increases. - The higher you fly above the ridge, the stronger the horizontal wind component becomes, so avoid drifting too far back to prevent encountering rotor turbulence. - Expect turbulence and increased sink rates in the terrain cut between the launch site and the chapel to the left. - During landing, be mindful of the wind gradient. In strong ground winds, do not fully flare the glider to avoid tipping over. For more details, visit: [DGFC Südschwarzwald](http://www.dgfc-suedschwarzwald.de)

Feldberg-Skischanze

Paragliding map of
At an altitude of approximately 1326 meters, this site is primarily used as a training slope for altitude flights. No flight logs have been found for this location. The launch area, known as 'Skischanze,' is restricted to the area west of the old ski jump, with a maximum of 100 meters above the path and 50 meters distance from the forest. Access to the slope with flight equipment must be direct from the path to protect valuable vegetation. Care must be taken to avoid creating 'trample paths' or causing damage to the vegetation. Flights can only be conducted after coordination with the site holder. Pilots must be briefed by the site holder on the specific characteristics of the terrain before their first flight. A survey of the landing area is required before the initial flight. In conditions of gusty winds and potential turbulence due to the location of the launch areas in forest clearings, launches are not permitted. From the 'Wiesenquelle' launch area, flights are not allowed if the wind exceeds 10 km/h. The B 317 road, which passes near the landing area, must be overflown with a minimum altitude of 50 meters above ground. Pilots must be informed by the site holder about the trees and associated turbulence risks in the landing area. For more details, visit: [Airpower Site Details](http://www.airpower.de/gelaende/)

Krater Niederzissen Bausenberg

Paragliding map of
Height: 320 meters, Horizontal Distance: 90 meters This site is frequently used and is excellent for soaring, especially in autumn, winter, and spring. No guest pilots are allowed. Top landing is prohibited and not possible. Region: Germany Site record: 19.6 km In summer, thermal conditions can make flying dangerous. Special Notes: The area is extremely sensitive due to constant complaints from residents. Authorized instructors are Bernd Schöning, Ralph Kleiner, Ralf Böhm, and Markus Scheid. Flying is only permitted after an orientation from one of these individuals. All rules will be explained during the orientation. According to lu-glidz: a) The volcanic terrain is extremely thermic. Especially from the wind-protected old quarries, it can produce intense thermal updrafts. While these are welcome in late autumn, winter, and spring, they are brutal in summer. Therefore, Bausenberg is rarely flown in summer. b) A southwest wind component, like the one on Saturday, is also problematic. At the launch site, the west component is often not felt because the wind turns into the gap. Pilots should pay attention to the clouds and wind turbines. The thermal updrafts at Bausenberg usually originate directly from the quarry below the launch site. The hot air bubble acts like a foreign body in the air mass, significantly deflecting the incoming wind, which can lead to unpredictable turbulence. The quick deflation of the front-stall canopy fits this theory. When Bausenberg was newly approved as a launch site a few years ago, everyone hoped it would be a "miracle launch site" for cross-country flying. However, it soon became apparent that in summer, it is nearly impossible to enter and climb in the narrow ballistic thermals. Today, Bausenberg is considered a great mountain for thermal soaring during the shorter days of the year. Launch Site: Dry meadow on Bausenberg surrounded by trees, with an information board and windsock. Pay attention to the wind situation at the launch site. Only launch with reliable headwind. For more details, visit: [Thermik4u - Niederzissen](https://www.thermik4u.de/fluggebiete/niederzissen) For those looking to collect airtime in winter, this is a great winter soaring site. During the thermal season, it becomes too turbulent above the quarry and often not flyable. Requirements: Membership in Rhein-Mosel-Lahner or DGC, B-License, and orientation. Site Holder: Drachen- und Gleitschirm-Fliegerfreunde Rhein-Mosel-Lahn e.V. [Thermik4u - Rhein-Mosel-Lahn](http://www.thermik4u.de/index.php?id=11) Note: B-License and orientation are mandatory before the first flight. Access: On foot Note: If no altitude is gained after launch, the landing site must be approached immediately. Flights are only permitted with wind from southern directions (no SW). Directions: Take the A61 to the Niederzissen exit. Follow the brown signs towards Bausenberg. Park at the hiking parking lot before the "No Entry" sign. From there, continue straight up the path on foot, then keep right to reach the launch site. From Landing Site to Launch Site: Only accessible on foot. From the landing site, head west and take the path at the western end of the landing field towards the north. This leads to the marked hiking trail "Eifelleiter." Follow this trail to Bausenberg and the launch site.

After the bridge, turn left onto a field path towards Stachelhardt. A small forest path leads steeply up to the take-off site, taking about 45 minutes on foot. Flight: At Stachelhardt, soaring along the ridge is common in strong winds. With sufficient altitude gain at take-off, cross-country flights towards the northwest are possible. However, be cautious of airspace restrictions due to the proximity of Cologne/Bonn Airport at 2500 feet MSL. Difficulties and Dangers: This site is not suitable for beginner paragliders. The take-off is recommended only for experienced pilots. Be aware of rotor turbulence in crosswinds.
