Elevation: 785 m, Height Difference: 277 m / Medium
Regularly used for soaring and thermals, with some cross-country potential. Usable year-round except late spring until June 15 or when grass is high. Follow the rules (see below). Clear-cut launch.
Region: Schöfweg - Germany
Site record: 67.7 km
At the northeastern end of Langfurt (parking with a view of the Lallinger Winkel), set up below the two houses only when the grass is low and launch from the meadow path. Obtain launch permission from the farmer (the southern house) beforehand. The launch area is supported by a natural management program, so do not use it before June 15 in spring, or the owner will lose their funding. No windsock due to infrequent use.
Landing is in the Lallinger Valley southwest of the village of Sondorf on a large meadow. Inspect the landing site beforehand (a low row of trees must be flown over during the crosswind approach, power line along the final approach, the terrain slopes slightly in the landing direction). No windsock due to infrequent use. It is best to ask the farmer (farm near the meadow) for permission before setting up a wind indicator.
Type of Launch / Suitable for: Flat, elongated meadow launch for hang gliders and paragliders. Beware of lee turbulence from the tree in front and turbulence from the 'Steinberg' with a southern wind tendency.
Launch Wind Direction / Wind Speed:
W to NW 10 to 30 km/h is okay, NW 25 km/h is optimal.
Weather Info:
Automatic announcement under Tel: 01522-7030323. The wind announcement is east wind-prone due to the Zentinger Valley. In the west, it is inaccurate due to lee effects (mountain).
Height Difference / Distance to Landing Site:
300m / 1600m - Without soaring on the slope or thermals, devices with poor glide performance should fly directly to the landing site. The terrain flattens out significantly in the lower area, so gliders often land on the slope-near (turbulent) meadows.
Best Season:
Best thermals in early spring when trees are still leafless, or soaring in strong winds year-round.
Access / Parking:
Drive to the parking lot. Walk 150m to below the two houses.

Notes:
Flyable year-round (except high grass and late spring until June 15). Flat meadow launch, partially wooded slope in front. Challenging terrain due to small height differences and unreliable, small-scale thermals. Launching is challenging in light winds, nearly impossible in calm conditions.
Before launching, always obtain permission from the farmer at the launch site, and beginners should definitely get an introduction.

Located in Bavaria, Germany, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 876 meters and a height difference of 350-500 meters. It is a highly frequented spot, ideal for walk & fly and excellent for cross-country (XC) flights. Due to the high traffic, adhering to the rules is crucial.
The site record stands at an impressive 304.9 km, with the takeoff direction being southeast (SO). Before flying, it is essential to get an introduction from a club member and inspect the landing area due to the surrounding terrain and houses. A day membership is required. Avoid flying in crosswinds as the high trees and narrow clearing can create dangerous rotors. Typically, regional winds are overridden by thermals, especially in weak wind conditions, but expect increasing crosswinds from the south in the afternoon.
The launch area is a grassy slope within a forest clearing, which has been widened to accommodate paragliders more safely. However, hang gliders may still find it challenging due to edge vortices. In zero wind conditions, a strong run is necessary. Ideal wind speeds for takeoff range from 5 to 15 km/h, with a maximum of 20 km/h.
Weather information can be obtained via an automated service at Tel: 01522-7030323. Note that wind readings are often east-biased due to the Zentinger Valley, and west winds can be inaccurate due to the mountain's lee side.
The landing area for hang gliders is approximately 3000 meters away in Schaufling. If you don't catch a thermal over the rehab clinic, head straight to the landing zone. The best thermals are typically found in spring.
For access and parking, drive to the 'Langlauf- bzw Wanderzentrum Rusel' parking area. From there, it's a 700-meter walk uphill through the forest to the setup area in the lift clearing.

This site is flyable year-round, but ensure the wind direction is suitable. In zero wind conditions, only experienced pilots should attempt a launch. The terrain is demanding due to the small height differences, but the thermals, especially in spring, are favorable. Top landings are prohibited due to conflicts with local farmers. This is one of the few southeast-facing sites in the Bavarian Forest. Respect the environment, residents, and farmers, as there are no official landing zones.
To fly at Hausstein, you have three options:
1. Club membership
2. Season pass for €60
3. Day membership for €6, available from club pilots on-site
For first-time flights, an introduction by a club member is mandatory. Use only the designated landing field between the village and the access road. All other fields around Böhaming and Ennsmannsberg are off-limits. Leave the landing fields immediately after landing. Park vehicles away from roads and field paths to allow farmers to pass with their equipment. Parking is available at the lift parking area.

Located in the St. Engelmar region of Germany, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 1042 meters and a height difference of 438 meters. The site is frequently used and is known for its excellent soaring conditions and potential for cross-country flights.
Guest pilots are required to undergo an orientation before flying. The landing zone is situated in Hintervichtach on agricultural land, so please be considerate. A day membership is necessary to fly here. Avoid launching in crosswinds and be cautious of the narrow forested takeoff area.
A B-license is mandatory for visiting pilots. For wind information, you can contact Hoher Bogen at 09947 / 2452 or Büchelstein at 09908 / 891191.
The Pröller takeoff site is located in a forest clearing with a northeast launch direction. Do not attempt to launch in crosswinds or unclear conditions. The landing area is in Hintervichtach, and it is important to respect the agricultural land.
Pröller is also a popular ski area in the Bavarian Forest, with ski lifts in the nearby health resort of St. Englmar. The north slope, which is approved for both hang gliders and paragliders, has a height difference of 400 meters and a descent length of 1000 meters. The north slope is a wide, ideally inclined clearing with a northeast wind direction. The approach can be tricky; from Straubing, head towards St. Englmar, then to the Pröller-Westhang base station in Klinglbach, and follow the mountain road to Hinterwies. Continue on the forest path to Hotel Hochpröller, and from there, it's a 200-meter walk to the Pröller north slope lift clearing.
The north slope takeoff coordinates are 49°01'25.5"N, 12°49'28.4"E at an altitude of 976 meters, with a launch direction of 50°. For GPS, enter 94379 Hinterwies. If coming from the B85 (Ostmarkstraße), turn towards St. Englmar at Viechtach.
The west slope takeoff coordinates are 49°01'25.2"N, 12°49'09.4"E at an altitude of 1007 meters, with a launch direction of 280°. The west slope is much steeper than it appears in photos and is recommended only for experienced pilots due to strong turbulence.
Hang gliders will find no suitable landing area on the west slope, while paragliders may find a meadow in the valley without tall grass or power lines. However, landings in Klinglbach (west slope) are very challenging due to numerous power lines and sloped meadows.

This paragliding site in Bavaria, Germany, is occasionally used and serves as a training and practice slope. It is suitable for ground handling and offers occasional enjoyable soaring with short cross-country flights.
Located in the Bavarian Forest, one of the most beautiful regions for paragliding in Germany, you can reach Windberg via the A3 motorway from Regensburg to Passau. Take the Sankt Englmar exit, head towards Hunderdorf, and then follow the signs to Windberg. The large flying area, situated before the village, can accommodate up to 50 paragliders simultaneously. With west winds, you can enjoy hours of soaring flights. The 70-meter slope is also suitable for thermal flights and training purposes, with a smaller slope on the southern edge ideal for launch practice.
Before using the site, please contact the Bayerwald Flight Center.
You can start your flight at the foot of the Premonstratensian Monastery in Windberg or, for a more mystical experience, in the homeland of the forest prophet Mühlhiasl. This site offers a beautiful practice slope for paragliders against a historical backdrop. However, hang gliders may face difficulties due to ground effect issues. The local tourist office even promotes paragliding in their brochures, although the image used is a photomontage of a parachutist over the practice slope.
To get there, take the Regensburg-Passau motorway, exit at Bogen towards Viechtach, and continue to St. Englmar. After about 10 km, you will arrive at the site. Alternatively, enter 94336 Windberg into your GPS, and you will pass directly by the slope before reaching the village.
With stronger west to northwest winds, soaring with a paraglider is quite feasible, though landing can be tricky due to turbulence caused by trees. Hang gliders do not have a glide path here, so they do not fly at this site.
A first-time visit to this site should definitely include a visit to the Windberg Monastery with its baroque church. For those interested in prophecies, you can explore the birthplace of the forest prophet Mühlhiasl in Apoig, located on the eastern edge of the area. A visit to the Bogenberg with its magnificent view of the Gäuboden is also recommended, although dense undergrowth and nature conservation regulations prevent flights to the nearby Danube shore.

The Drachen-Startplatz Rampe is a popular hang gliding launch site located in Bayern, Germany. This site is specifically designed for hang gliders and is not suitable for paragliders due to the lack of space for laying out a wing. The launch is a ramp over a cliff, making it a medium-difficult site to navigate.
The site is well-utilized and offers good cross-country flying potential. The launch direction is 200° over a rock face, and the ideal wind conditions for takeoff are from the south to south-southwest at wind speeds up to 15 km/h. In weak wind conditions up to 10 km/h, thermals can override the regional wind, allowing for takeoff in all directions.
The landing zone is located south of the village of Winsing on an east-west oriented hill. Pilots are advised to inspect the landing area beforehand, as wind indicators are present.
The elevation difference between the launch and landing site is 360 meters, with a distance of 2080 meters. Even hang gliders with lower glide performance can reach the landing zone without issues, provided they exit early enough.
The best time to fly here is in the spring when the trees are not yet in full leaf and often in August. Access to the site is via Bauerhof Oberaign, but pilots must walk the final 800 meters from the gate to the setup area. A cart is available to help transport hang gliders to the ramp.
For weather information, an automatic announcement is available at Tel: 01522-7030323. Note that the wind readings can be influenced by the local geography, particularly the Zentinger Valley, which can cause inaccuracies in west wind conditions.
The site is flyable year-round, but transporting hang gliders can be more challenging in winter due to snow. The ramp has a shallow angle, and pilots must run through the start. The terrain is demanding due to small-scale, unreliable thermals and minimal elevation differences.
