Located in Bavaria, Germany, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 876 meters and a height difference of 350-500 meters. It is a highly frequented spot, ideal for walk & fly and excellent for cross-country (XC) flights. Due to the high traffic, adhering to the rules is crucial.
The site record stands at an impressive 304.9 km, with the takeoff direction being southeast (SO). Before flying, it is essential to get an introduction from a club member and inspect the landing area due to the surrounding terrain and houses. A day membership is required. Avoid flying in crosswinds as the high trees and narrow clearing can create dangerous rotors. Typically, regional winds are overridden by thermals, especially in weak wind conditions, but expect increasing crosswinds from the south in the afternoon.
The launch area is a grassy slope within a forest clearing, which has been widened to accommodate paragliders more safely. However, hang gliders may still find it challenging due to edge vortices. In zero wind conditions, a strong run is necessary. Ideal wind speeds for takeoff range from 5 to 15 km/h, with a maximum of 20 km/h.
Weather information can be obtained via an automated service at Tel: 01522-7030323. Note that wind readings are often east-biased due to the Zentinger Valley, and west winds can be inaccurate due to the mountain's lee side.
The landing area for hang gliders is approximately 3000 meters away in Schaufling. If you don't catch a thermal over the rehab clinic, head straight to the landing zone. The best thermals are typically found in spring.
For access and parking, drive to the 'Langlauf- bzw Wanderzentrum Rusel' parking area. From there, it's a 700-meter walk uphill through the forest to the setup area in the lift clearing.

This site is flyable year-round, but ensure the wind direction is suitable. In zero wind conditions, only experienced pilots should attempt a launch. The terrain is demanding due to the small height differences, but the thermals, especially in spring, are favorable. Top landings are prohibited due to conflicts with local farmers. This is one of the few southeast-facing sites in the Bavarian Forest. Respect the environment, residents, and farmers, as there are no official landing zones.
To fly at Hausstein, you have three options:
1. Club membership
2. Season pass for €60
3. Day membership for €6, available from club pilots on-site
For first-time flights, an introduction by a club member is mandatory. Use only the designated landing field between the village and the access road. All other fields around Böhaming and Ennsmannsberg are off-limits. Leave the landing fields immediately after landing. Park vehicles away from roads and field paths to allow farmers to pass with their equipment. Parking is available at the lift parking area.
