Description

The 750 launch, located at approximately 2500 feet MSL on the Cloudland Truck Trail (2N40) northeast of AJX, offers a great spot for paragliding and hang gliding. This site is regularly used for thermal soaring, and cross-country flights are possible. Toplanding is also an option here. Access to the training launch is available by hiking from the landing zone (LZ) or driving up a fire road with a 2WD vehicle from the LZ. The site record stands at 143.5 km, with an altitude of -750 feet above the LZ. For more details, you can check out this video: [YouTube Video](

&t=54s) and visit the [Crestline Soaring Society page](https://crestlinesoaring.org/750-launch/). Pilots must be aware that this information does not replace the need for an in-person site briefing from a local pilot or instructor familiar with the area. All launches and LZs require a P3/H3 rating or above. Visitors who do not meet these requirements must schedule instruction or observation with a local instructor before arriving. The 750 launch is a flat slope launch with an altitude of 2480 feet MSL and an orientation of SSW. The best conditions for launching are winds between 0-15 mph from the south, SSE, or SW. The glide ratio to AJX is 3.9:1. Vehicle access is via a dirt road, suitable for 2WD vehicles with moderate clearance. Pilots should be cautious of gusty winds and high winds, which can make launching challenging. Hang glider pilots are encouraged to use a wire man and obtain launch assistance during periods of high winds or gust spreads. The thermic air can be rougher than expected, so pilots should consider their experience and launching technique carefully. There is a caution zone west of the launch where a "bump" can create turbulence when the winds are from the west. Additional hazards include wildlife such as snakes, mountain lions, and bears. Thunderstorms, particularly in the spring and fall, can develop and lead to gust fronts. Be vigilant for a "wall of dust" on days with towering cumulus clouds.
