Conditions Optimales
Description
Located in the Abruzzo region of Italy, this paragliding site offers an elevation of 1317 meters with a height difference of 580 meters. The site is known for its easy access and favorable aerological conditions, making it a popular choice for soaring flights. The takeoff is situated on the west side of Monte Tricella, and the landing area, which is 600 meters below, is clearly visible from the takeoff point.
The flying area is spacious with no obstacles during takeoff or landing. However, be cautious of the two wind funnels on either side of the takeoff area. It's advisable to stay in front of the takeoff point, especially during midday when the wind tends to be stronger. This site is ideal for thermal flights, allowing pilots to glide along the ridges adjacent to the takeoff and occasionally venture into the valley using thermals from the surrounding terrain.
Pilots can achieve significant altitude gains, enabling cross-country flights towards the Matese and Miella regions. Other directions are generally restricted due to the valley's topography and prevailing winds. An interesting phenomenon here is the "restitution," which allows for extended flying time after sunset until darkness sets in.
To reach the takeoff point, exit the A25 at Pescina and follow the signs to Gioia dei Marsi. Continue towards Pescasseroli, and after 7-8 km, pass a road maintenance house. Shortly after, a road sign will direct you to Sperone. Turn left onto a sufficiently navigable dirt road that ascends the mountain to the takeoff point. Pay attention to the white and red ribbons marking the route.
