Best Conditions
Description
Located on the slopes of Monte Sirente, this paragliding site offers excellent aerological conditions, especially with winds from the eastern quadrants. The takeoff area is easily accessible and, although not very large, it can accommodate at least two wings simultaneously. The landing zone is spacious, slightly sloped, and visible from the takeoff point.
For the best flying experience, it is recommended to take off in the morning. In the afternoon, the orographic orientation of the area causes air to flow from the wide Fucino valley behind the takeoff. After takeoff, it's advisable to immediately find the 'service' thermal, usually located to the left when facing the valley. Once some altitude is gained, the flight typically involves climbing and often surpassing Monte Sirente (2350 meters). From there, pilots can choose to head towards the valley, which is very generous with thermals, and decide whether to continue the flight towards Ovindoli or Sulmona.
Recommended wind directions are North-East, East, and South-East.
Access from Rome: Take the A24 to Valle del Salto, then the A25 towards Pescara until Celano. From there, follow the SR5 (Tiburtina Valeria) for about 30 km to Castelvecchio Subequo. Follow the signs to Gagliano Aterno. Once in the village, ask for the takeoff point, which is easily reachable via the only road that winds along the slopes of Monte Sirente.
