This site is frequently used and offers good thermals, making it suitable for cross-country flights. However, it is exclusively for club members. Top landing is the most common landing method here. The lift above the take-off area is often strong, making descent challenging. Pilots should be proficient in using big ears.
Region: Mechernich, Germany. Site record: 6.4 km.
Flying over the Rhine River is a unique experience, but landing can be tricky. The landing area is a meadow directly in front of the Gedeonseck restaurant terrace, marked by a windsock.
The take-off area is also used for top landing. Always check the airspace situation before starting. This site often experiences strong winds, and the lift above the take-off area is usually significant. Be cautious to avoid being lifted unexpectedly.
Getting There:
From A61, take the Koblenz-Waldesch exit. Follow the Hunsrückhöhenstraße towards Emmelshausen. After a few meters, turn left onto L207 towards Boppard. Shortly after the Boppard town sign, there is a bus stop with a small turning area on the right. From there, head diagonally left towards Gedeonseck. Please be mindful of bikers.
From Landing Zone to Take-off:
On foot: From Welterbefeld towards Boppard, follow the hiking trail. It splits into two paths: the upper route (via a climbing path with a 10m ladder) and the lower route (a longer hiking trail). Both paths merge onto the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, which leads back to the take-off area under the chairlift.
By car: Follow the hiking trail from Welterbefeld towards Boppard, then follow the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig downhill to the chairlift parking lot. Drive up Mühltalstraße and take the turn towards Gedeonseck. Alternatively, take the chairlift back up.
From Filsen: Walk along the B42 upstream along the Rhine. Take the ferry back to Boppard. From the ferry dock, walk along Rheinallee towards the north. At the end of Rheinallee, cross B9 and head into Mühltal. The chairlift is a few meters ahead.

This is a very demanding and steep site, suitable only for pilots with a B-license. Only for club members, and an introduction is mandatory.
Pilots must be able to take off backward and the glider should have a glide ratio of six. The slope is short and steep. A B-license is required, and pilots must be confident in their take-off skills. Landing in the vineyards is prohibited; if you don't top land, you must fly over the Rhine and take the ferry back. Fees and schedule: [Ferry Boppard](http://www.faehre-boppard.de/).
Walk and Fly:
Starting point: Leave your car at the large parking lot near the gas stations, go under the railway, keep right behind the mill, and climb the ridge. The path has an alpine character, so good footwear is essential. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the top (with a glider). For more details, contact Wolfgang.
Directions:
Drive south on B9 to Boppard and park near the gas stations. Take the cable car to the Gedeonseck viewpoint, which is also the take-off area. Alternatively, drive up Mühltal towards Vierseenblick/Gedeonseck, park at Gedeonseck, and top land again.

Soaring over the Rhine and crossing the river for landing makes this site interesting. Since a gondola also goes up to the take-off area, give it a try. Before attempting any short cross-country flights, contact the RML members. [Thermik4u](https://www.thermik4u.de).
