Description
Located in the Haibach region of Germany, this paragliding site offers a takeoff height of 799 meters with a height difference of 360 meters. It is a popular spot for walk & fly enthusiasts and is frequently used for thermal flying, making it a good location for cross-country flights.
The mountains of the Vorderer Bayerischer Wald run primarily from south to north, providing slopes that are exposed to westerly winds. However, these slopes are densely forested with spruce trees, making takeoff challenging. Fortunately, a specific area has been cleared, allowing for paragliding activities. The local club, DGFC Regental, has worked extensively to make this site flight-ready, removing most trees and leaving only some bushes.
While the ramp for hang gliders still exists, hang gliding is becoming less common here. Paragliders can also use this ramp for takeoff. The ideal wind direction for this site is from the southwest to the west.
Access to the takeoff point requires a 500-meter walk, as direct driving is not possible. Due to the difficulty in finding the route and the need for site-specific knowledge, it is advisable to visit with a local pilot.
