Description

Located in the St. Engelmar region of Germany, this paragliding site offers a takeoff altitude of 1042 meters and a height difference of 438 meters. The site is frequently used and is known for its excellent soaring conditions and potential for cross-country flights. Guest pilots are required to undergo an orientation before flying. The landing zone is situated in Hintervichtach on agricultural land, so please be considerate. A day membership is necessary to fly here. Avoid launching in crosswinds and be cautious of the narrow forested takeoff area. A B-license is mandatory for visiting pilots. For wind information, you can contact Hoher Bogen at 09947 / 2452 or Büchelstein at 09908 / 891191. The Pröller takeoff site is located in a forest clearing with a northeast launch direction. Do not attempt to launch in crosswinds or unclear conditions. The landing area is in Hintervichtach, and it is important to respect the agricultural land. Pröller is also a popular ski area in the Bavarian Forest, with ski lifts in the nearby health resort of St. Englmar. The north slope, which is approved for both hang gliders and paragliders, has a height difference of 400 meters and a descent length of 1000 meters. The north slope is a wide, ideally inclined clearing with a northeast wind direction. The approach can be tricky; from Straubing, head towards St. Englmar, then to the Pröller-Westhang base station in Klinglbach, and follow the mountain road to Hinterwies. Continue on the forest path to Hotel Hochpröller, and from there, it's a 200-meter walk to the Pröller north slope lift clearing. The north slope takeoff coordinates are 49°01'25.5"N, 12°49'28.4"E at an altitude of 976 meters, with a launch direction of 50°. For GPS, enter 94379 Hinterwies. If coming from the B85 (Ostmarkstraße), turn towards St. Englmar at Viechtach. The west slope takeoff coordinates are 49°01'25.2"N, 12°49'09.4"E at an altitude of 1007 meters, with a launch direction of 280°. The west slope is much steeper than it appears in photos and is recommended only for experienced pilots due to strong turbulence. Hang gliders will find no suitable landing area on the west slope, while paragliders may find a meadow in the valley without tall grass or power lines. However, landings in Klinglbach (west slope) are very challenging due to numerous power lines and sloped meadows.
