Description
At an elevation of 2242 meters with a height difference of 695 meters, this site is regularly used and serves as the main launch area. It offers an exciting experience for experienced pilots, primarily for soaring, though cross-country (XC) flights are also possible as it lies along an XC route.
Located in the Galtür region of Austria, the site has a flight record of 78.7 km. Access to the launch sites is via forest roads, and vehicle use is restricted to authorized personnel only. Unauthorized private access is not permitted. The local paragliding school, High & Fun Galtür, operates a shuttle service to the launch sites. For shuttle service, please contact Elmar Ganahl at silbertaler@galtuer.at or visit http://www.flugschule.galtuer.at. You can also reach them by phone at +43 5443 8256 or mobile at +43 6644 024951.
The area is relatively frequently used, with XC flights possible. Pilots can fly along the long chain towards the east-northeast or towards the south. There is no cable car service, only the shuttle.
For accommodations and as a meeting point for pilots, Gasthof/Hotel Silbertaler is recommended. It also serves as the departure point for the shuttle service. Contact them at Tel 0043-5543-8256 or visit http://www.flugschule.galtuer.at.
The site is suitable for alpine terrain flying. Be mindful of valley wind systems. Dream flights up to 4000 meters into the Jamtal and towards the Fluchthorn (3400m) and glaciers are possible.
The site is also suitable for less experienced pilots due to excellent support at the launch and landing sites, potentially with radio assistance from the local paragliding school. Soaring conditions vary with wind direction: with west winds, soar from Predigberg towards Jamtal to the south; with east winds, soar at Ballunspitze.
This high alpine flying area now offers launch opportunities in all wind directions. The paragliding school provides bus transport and pre-flight briefings, ensuring no unexpected issues arise.
