Description
Montoz Nord
Takeoff Direction: North
Elevation: 1150 meters above sea level
The northern takeoff area is spacious and relatively easy to use. However, be cautious of potential turbulence if there's a westerly wind. After launching, you will need to navigate around or over individual trees until you reach a steep drop about 200 meters below, which forms an ideal ridge for soaring.
Despite not being particularly high, the area offers challenging launches but makes cross-country flights and gaining altitude quite feasible. Conditions are especially favorable after midday and with winds from the northwest.
Montoz Süd
Thermally, Montoz Süd is one of the best mountains in the region, which can also make it quite turbulent. The Montoz mountain range is an excellent starting point for distance flights, and returning to the starting point is relatively easy. You can either top-land or land on a mowed meadow near the football field in La Heutte.
Landing
Be aware of a power line along the road near the landing area, which can be hazardous. Overflying the cliffs and landing in La Heutte can also be very turbulent.
Access
From Sovillier, drive towards Montagen de Sorvillier. Just before reaching the plateau, a path branches off at a right-hand curve. Follow this path on foot to reach the takeoff area. The takeoff spot is very challenging, located in a small, steep forest clearing.
