Description
Bözingenberg, located in the Bözingen region of Switzerland, is a popular paragliding site known for its reliability and convenience. It is approximately a 15-minute drive from Biel, making it easily accessible. When the wind at Chasseral is too strong, Bözingenberg often remains flyable.
The new take-off site is oriented towards the south-southeast and is generally usable even when there is a Bise wind. For strong west winds, it is recommended to use the old take-off site located west of the restaurant.
The landing zone is now situated northeast of the vegetable gardens near Hornusserplatz. Be cautious as the area can become turbulent due to the surrounding forest strip and nearby houses. Landing on the Hornusserplatz itself is strictly prohibited.
The take-off site is a steep meadow within a forest clearing, offering a stunning view over Lake Biel and the city. The coordinates for the take-off site are 7.29419681, 47.17451628, and it is at an elevation of 940 meters. There is no cable car access, and it requires a 15-minute walk from the parking area near the farm, following the AHV-Weg sign.
Early in the year and during the day, you can expect decent thermals. For cross-country flights, head towards Balsthal and Weissenstein. Beginners will find various emergency landing options, but caution is advised during take-off due to potential turbulence.
For the east-facing new take-off site, expect turbulence directly after take-off on thermal days. For the west-facing old take-off site, be mindful of the path that can complicate take-offs and ensure you remain upright until you clear the trees. Early decision-making is crucial for any potential aborted take-offs due to the tree line.
