Iron Mt is not a SDHGPA managed or maintained site.
Due to being in an Open Space Preserve, and lack of use agreements, this site is not managed, or supported in any way by the San Diego Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, nor is the site specifically permitted for flight activities by any public or private agency. The SDHGPA does not condone flying at this site, though we do not wish to discourage anyone pursuing the art of free flight, as long as they do so responsibly.
SDHGPA recommends that you do not fly from Iron Mt
If you do choose to fly at this site, you must take full responsibility for your actions, and recognize that you are fully and solely liable for any damage incurred by yourself, others, or others’ property, and any trouble you may encounter with landowners or government law enforcement agencies.
Taking responsibility does not mean saying “oops” after you screw up – it means being absolutely sure that your sporting activities do not injure anyone else, cost anyone else money, or in any way cause harm to come to anyone’s property, land, or creatures, whether they be captive or wild. If you choose to take actions that could lead to injuring someone else or damaging their property, we recommend that you first acquire a suitable liability insurance policy to cover those you may injure directly or indirectly.
Iron Mountain and several of the sites not in the "Primary Sites" category have yielded multiple severe injury accidents, with potential injuries to bystanders and livestock, and significant damage to property. Some of these sites have very significant safety challenges including, but not limited to, severe, unpredictable turbulence, quickly shifting strong wind conditions, no legal landing zones, and innumerable rattlesnakes.
If you do choose to fly at this site, please do so only after discussing the flying site and its particular risks and restrictions with another pilot who has flown there before. Be aware that some of these flying sites are very sensitive in terms of the unofficial permissions granted by the landowners to the pilots who do fly there, and those pilots can (and should) be very protective of those concessions. If you act in an irresponsible manner and ruin these sites for others, they will be as displeased as we would be if you failed to follow our rules and caused us to lose one of our primary SDHGPA/USHPA insured sites.

Flying Little Black - Black Mountain Open Space or Big Black Mountain are good Hike N Fly alternatives that offer better and safer flying conditions.
Some have flown it but would not recommend it. There are just so many better sites that are close. Mostly Hike & Fly and XC turn point from Little Black.
Launch is a strenuous 2.8 mile hike from the trailhead. During warm weather, dehydration is a concern for all hikers there, especially if they are carrying a heavy pack.

Altitude above launch is limited by airspace approach path into Miramar MCAS Airport (NKX).
General Information/ Notes:
Open Space Preserve with heavy hiking, mountain bike, and equestrian use
Launch and LZs are unimproved and needs to remain unimproved.
Peak / launch altitude: 2696 ft
Rating: P4 - M2
Always fly within the USHPA recommended operating limitations for your rating as specified in the USHPA Pilot Proficiency System.
Best conditions: 7-10 mph, NW, W, SW
Best time(s) of day to fly: Evening glass off, - can be very turbulent and strong during summer months.
Directly under Miramar MCAS Airport (NKX) Approach Air Space with an Air Space Ceiling: 3,800 ft SkyVector Link
Need to limit flight to under 1k over launch
There is a Surface Class E airspace 2 miles to the south, and the Class D Ramona airspace is just .7 miles away. SkyVector Link

Site Protocol:
SDHGPA recommends that you do not fly from this site.
Advanced site requiring solid P4 skills. This site is not suitable for HG.
All participants in setup, launch, and launch assistance, flight and landing activities should be current members of USHPA, having signed the current USHPA Release, Waiver and Assumption of Risk Agreement.
Launching:
All potential launch areas are unimproved boulder mine fields with many hazards and bushes. Since it is Open Space Preserve, you are not allowed to clear brush or otherwise improve the launch area.
The peak is very popular with hikers, so spectators can be an issue.
Many unidentified hazards
Soaring Hazards
The site can really only handle 1 or maybe 2 to fly it at a time due to the small window and narrow soaring zone near potential launch areas and the entire area depending on wind direction.
This is not a simple ridge. It is complex terrain that effects micro wind directions that are highly affected by the surrounding terrain/ geography and how it funnels and directs the winds.
Significant risk of other air traffic. If there is any emergency on the mountain (e.g. stricken hiker), expect a rescue helicopter.
Many unidentified hazards
No official LZ
No wind socks
Possible wake turbulence from trucks on Highway 67
Cross Country
Commonly used as a turn point in XC flights from Little Black
PGE:

Infrequently Flown and Launch not maintained and can not be maintained in this Open Space Preserve.
Mostly Hike & Fly and XC turn point from Little Black.
There are just so many better sites that are close.
