This site is frequently used and offers excellent cross-country (XC) flying opportunities. The site record is an impressive 281.3 km.
Important Notices:
Flying operations are only suitable for experienced pilots, as the landing area near the valley station is only suitable for emergency landings. There is a significant amount of forest that must be flown over.
With the new launch site (ski slope west of the mountain station), the altitude difference is slightly greater, and it is usually possible to reach the designated landing area for hang gliders. However, if you do not find thermals immediately, you should head directly to the hang glider landing area.
Near the Berggasthof Schönblick, the terrain drops off to the southeast, which can tempt pilots to leave the ridge. This area often experiences lee turbulence and strong sink, making it difficult to reach a safe landing area.
On the south side of the mountain, the forest extends quite far. It is recommended to fly away only after gaining at least 500 meters of altitude above the launch site, as strong sink and lee turbulence can be expected depending on the wind and thermal conditions.
Launch permission is only granted after a briefing from an experienced club member.
