There are two main flying areas at Bennan Head:
1. **Southeast Wind Area**:
- **Parking**: Park in a small, disused quarry just off the main road at grid reference NR 999 213.
- **Takeoff**: Located 200-300 meters south of the parking area at grid reference NR 999 211.
- **Top Landing**: Easy to achieve.
- **Bottom Landing**: On grass next to a rocky shore. If you land at the bottom, you can either climb back up to the takeoff point or walk 2 kilometers along the shore past numerous seals to Kildonan. The first building you encounter in Kildonan is Kildonan Stores, which sells cold drinks. In favorable conditions, it is possible to fly to Kildonan or even beyond.
2. **South Wind Area**:
- **Parking**: On the main road at grid reference NR 979 214.
- **Takeoff**: Walk downhill on a rough track towards the sea to grid reference NR 978 205. The takeoff point is on a small rounded hill with a disused and derelict crow trap on top.
- **Top Landing**: Easy to achieve.
- **Bottom Landing**: Possible behind the rocky shore, but the area can be wet, and the walk back to the top is steep and unpleasant.
You can soar for several kilometers in each direction, but when soaring the 200-foot high cliffs (1500 meters left of takeoff) in strong winds, ensure you move out over the shore to avoid being blown back. Access restrictions apply during lambing season.
