Description
Charmey, located in the heart of the Gruyère region in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland, offers a fantastic paragliding experience. The main take-off site is situated above the village of Charmey, in the Jogne Valley, along the route to the Jaun Pass, just 10 minutes from Bulle. Access to the take-off is made easy by the 'Rapido-Sky' gondola.
The take-off area is to the left of the gondola's arrival point. Although the take-off zone is not very large, it is safe and free of obstacles. The site is suitable for soaring and cross-country flights, with the possibility of gaining an additional 200 meters in altitude before heading out on a longer route into the Simmental.
The ideal wind directions for this site are West to South-West, and it is also flyable with a Bise wind. The take-off altitude is 1620 meters, and the coordinates are 7.20622229, 46.62566022. The launch area is a flat spot next to a farmhouse, followed by moderately steep terrain for take-off.
Charmey itself is a traditional mountain village with a friendly atmosphere and excellent tourist infrastructure, making it a great place to visit year-round. The gondola ride to the summit takes you to 'Vounetz' (1813m), where you can enjoy a meal at the summit restaurant located near the lift.
After landing, which is near the Rapido Sky gondola parking lot, it is important to fold your wing on the parking lot and not on the grass.
