Description
Charmey, located in the heart of the Gruyère region in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland, offers a charming paragliding experience. Known locally as Vounetse, this site is occasionally used and provides opportunities for soaring and some cross-country (XC) flights.
The launch site is situated at an elevation of 1620 meters and is accessible via a gondola lift from Charmey. The launch area is moderately steep and located next to a farmhouse. The region is suitable for intermediate pilots and offers two launch sites, allowing for takeoff in various weather conditions. Ideal wind directions are from the East to South-East, and it remains flyable even with a Bise wind.
Once airborne, you can either glide towards the valley town or gain an additional 200 meters of altitude before heading on a cross-country route into the Simmental. The site record for distance is 25.9 km.
After landing at the Rapido Sky gondola parking lot, it is important to pack your glider on the parking lot and not on the grass.
