Description
The Valsecca launch site in Italy is situated at an elevation of 1,900 meters above sea level, with a landing zone at 560 meters. The launch area is a grassy meadow, suitable for both hang gliders and paragliders. The takeoff direction is predominantly south.
To reach the launch site, take the A23 motorway and exit at Carnia. Head towards Tolmezzo, then follow the signs towards Austria (Passo Monte Croce Carnico). At the Sutrio junction, turn left towards Cercivento. The landing zone is located 2 km from Cercivento, next to the sports field, with clear signage in place.
The landing area is a well-maintained grassy field measuring 320 meters by 120 meters. Wind conditions at the landing zone are typically from the south and northeast, and a fixed windsock is available for wind direction indication.
Cross-country flying is possible in all directions from this site. However, it is important to avoid flying in northerly winds due to potential hazards. Additionally, pilots should familiarize themselves with the emergency landing area near the Ravascletto cable car station.
For detailed maps, you can refer to the Tabacco 1:25,000 scale map number 9, "Alpi Carniche." The local flying club is the "Nido delle Streghe" group based in Cercivento.
