The Nebelhorn summit area includes all launch sites accessible via the summit cable car. These sites are located in challenging, high-alpine terrain with an eastern cable car hazard and a high catch fence with masts on the western side.
Warning: Increased accident risk!
A B-license is mandatory for all pilots. Tandem pilots must present a written briefing confirmation from a DHV safety officer at ODV before they are allowed to launch.
The summit area comprises two official launch sites: the summit launch site (launch direction SSE – SW [160° - 230°]) and the west launch site (launch direction SW – W [230° - 270°]). The launch site under the terrace is tolerated but can be closed by the cable car at any time. Launching to the east (launch direction E [80° - 160°]) is prohibited and will result in the revocation of the cable car pass or a flight ban.
Please be mindful of pedestrians on the path below the terrace launch site. If someone is on the path, do not launch until the path is completely clear. Ensure that pedestrians do not walk into the launch area during takeoff. If an accident occurs between a launching paraglider and a pedestrian, this launch site may be closed.
Hang gliders can only set up at the summit launch site due to terrain constraints. Paragliders (B-license holders) can use all launch sites. Landing, top landing, aerobatics, and risky flight maneuvers are prohibited in the launch site areas.
The Nebelhorn is one of the most attractive flying sites in Germany, located in the impressive high-alpine Allgäu Alps. The main launch site is at the Edmund-Probst-Haus at the mid-station, where launches are made to the west.
The summit launch site is reached via another cable car section. However, this launch site is demanding due to its steepness. A firm surface, suitable weather conditions, and flight experience are prerequisites for launching here.
Another launch site is located further west (Gaißfuß), which is accessible on foot. The Gaißfuß is significantly easier terrain compared to the Nebelhorn summit. The landing site Oibele is surrounded by trees and is known to be turbulent.

The Nebelhorn is the most popular flying site in the Hochallgäu region. In 1989, the Alps were crossed from here to South Tyrol with a paraglider.
Optimal launch time is early morning, as the area can experience lee conditions in the afternoon. The best weather conditions are southern to western winds. The site offers a very long thermic period, including winter thermals.
Difficulty: Before launching, thoroughly examine the challenging terrain. Consider thermals and valley wind systems.
Above the Probsthaus: An avalanche rope lies across the green slopes on the west side of a notch. This rope is not visible from the air! Therefore, avoid flights on the east side and searching for updrafts on the west flank in that area.
