Description
Monte Freidour, located in Italy, offers a paragliding experience with an altitude of 1451 meters and a vertical drop of 1000 meters. The site is known for its easy difficulty level and is occasionally used for soaring and panoramic flights, with some potential for cross-country (XC) flights.
The takeoff is south-oriented and works best with light winds. However, northeast takeoff and "around-the-corner" launches are also possible in light wind conditions. The hike to the takeoff point from Crò takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Monte Freidour is situated behind the towns of Roletto, Cantalupa, and Frossasco, in a natural amphitheater known as Valle Noce. The area is popular not only with paragliders but also with hikers and climbers who enjoy the tranquil and scenic forests. The mountain is easily recognizable from a distance due to a distinctive monument commemorating a World War II plane crash.
The surrounding mountain ridges, including Monte Tre Denti and Monte Brunello, offer exceptional panoramic views of the plains. The site is known for its generous thermals, which are present year-round, making flights enjoyable and rewarding.
The plains below are dotted with extensive meadows, providing visible landing options from the takeoff point. It is advisable to contact the Vento Relativo Club for support and information about the site.
To access the takeoff, from Turin, take the new Orbassano-Pinerolo highway and continue on the Pinerolo ring road (direction Sestriere) until the San Secondo exit. Head towards Pinerolo, turn right at the second traffic light, and then left at the next one. Pass through San Pietro Val Lemina and follow the road up the valley, passing Talucco until you reach the Crò hamlet, where the road ends. Park at the restaurant's parking lot and follow the dirt road behind the restaurant, which becomes a forest trail leading to Monte Freidour, passing near Monte Setteconfini and Colle Sperina (1302 meters). The total hike takes about 75 minutes.
The Vento Relativo Club is working to provide authorized access to the forest trail via shuttle service, covering three-quarters of the total distance.
Monte Freidour is suitable for beginners, intermediate, and advanced pilots.
