Description
Monte Cucetto, standing at an altitude of 1723 meters with a height difference of 1030 meters, is a medium-difficulty paragliding site suitable for intermediate to advanced pilots. The site is regularly used and offers a 30-minute walk&fly experience. It is known for its excellent soaring conditions and some cross-country (XC) potential.
Monte Cucetto is easily recognizable from the valley floor due to a repeater station located on its crest. The mountain is renowned among skilled pilots from the Pinerolo area for its generous thermal currents, which, when properly utilized, provide excellent altitude gains for cross-country flights.
The site offers multiple take-off directions (East, South, West), allowing for launches at any time of the day. Evening restitution is particularly favorable. Morning flights towards Villar Perosa, where the landing zone is located, offer stunning views of the valley and the plains beyond Pra' Martino mountain. However, pilots should be mindful of the valley wind, especially during midday, as it can affect the approach to the landing zone.
To access the take-off point, drive from Pinerolo towards Sestriere. At the last roundabout near the COOP supermarket before Perosa Argentina, take the roundabout and turn right onto the old State Road 23. After approximately 500 meters, in the village of Castelnuovo, turn left towards Pralamar. The road soon becomes unpaved and is not well-maintained, so it is not recommended for unsuitable vehicles. Upon reaching Pralamar, where the road ends, park in the small roadside parking area and continue on foot along the well-marked trail to the summit. The hike takes about 30 minutes.
