This paragliding site is regularly used and offers opportunities for cross-country (XC) flights. The flying season typically spans from March/April and late June/July.
Takeoff:
The takeoff area is a well-grassed, moderately steep slope transitioning into a scree slope. The takeoff direction is North to Northeast. The site is operational year-round.
Access:
To reach the takeoff point, drive to Sarnen, Kerns, Melchtal, and Stöckalp. From Stöckalp, take the gondola to Melchsee-Frutt. From there, you can either walk for 15 minutes or take a taxi to the Bonistock base station. In winter, you can take a chairlift directly from Stöckalp to Bonistock.
Landing:
The usual landing spot is in Stöckalp on the meadow near the parking area, marked by a windsock.
Remarks:
The takeoff site is located near a mountain restaurant, offering a beautiful alpine setting. There are no airspace restrictions, but be mindful of the cables and wildlife protection areas as indicated on the information board. The area also offers various summer and winter sports activities, including a well-known climbing garden with over 100 routes, cave tours, snow sports, hiking, and fishing.
Flight Opportunities:
The region offers diverse and scenic cross-country flights. Typical routes include thermal flights into the Engelberg Valley, the Bernese Oberland (Meiringen), and the Entlebuch region (Brünig, Brienzerrothorn, Sörenberg). A popular tour is from Melchsee-Frutt over the 'Planplatten' to Sarnersee.
Soaring Conditions:
Soaring is possible with north wind, bise, or valley wind.
