To reach the takeoff point at Par眉sciana, you can take a cable car from Lumino to the mid-station, followed by a 10-minute walk. The path is comfortable and flat, leading you to a large meadow where the takeoff area is located, facing Bellinzona.
Landing is at the Church of San Mamete, situated between Lumino and Castione. If you are coming from Bellinzona, turn right after the industrial area of Castione and just before the Lumino bus stop. Cross the Bellinzona-Mesocco railway tracks and continue until you reach the church. The landing zone is to the north of the church. Note that in the summer afternoons, the wind can be quite strong. Only land if the hay is cut. Emergency landing options include San Vittore and Roveredo Campagna.
Be cautious of the high-voltage power line below Par眉sciana, which can create occasional strong turbulence. If you are coming from Mornera and find yourself below the power lines, stay well in front to avoid being drifted left towards Claro/Biasca, as it can be difficult to return. The landing areas in the Rivera region are very windy.
The takeoff area is accessible via a 15-minute walk from the cable car station, following a marked forest path. The start is straightforward without thermals but can be challenging with early morning thermals. The site is ideal for experienced pilots looking for quick thermal entry and cross-country flights, although distances typically remain under 20 km.
The thermals here start early in the morning and can be quite strong by midday, supported by the Leventina valley winds. Pilots should have the necessary experience to assess the conditions for a safe and enjoyable flight.
Safety tips include observing the windsock as the area in front of the cliff can be in the lee in the morning. Later in the day, conditions improve. The landing zone can experience valley winds exceeding 40 km/h on nice days.
