Conditions Optimales
Description
The site is regularly used and offers good cross-country (XC) potential. However, like many places in Germany, there are increasing restrictions. Currently, it is only accessible to members and exclusively for hang gliding (HG), despite several good paragliding (PG) flights still being logged.

Directions: Coming from Zerf, turn off in the middle of Irsch towards Ockfen. About 100 meters after leaving the village, turn right onto a paved road. This road leads directly to the landing zone at the edge of Ockfen. Continue on this road, cross a small stream, and after about 50 meters, turn left towards the new development area of Ockfen. Just before the first houses, a path leads right into the vineyards. From here, the route to the launch site is marked with 'Drachenfliegerschilder' (hang glider signs).
Launch Site:
- Access: Reach the setup area via a staircase with 137 steps. Approximately 6 hang gliders can be set up.
- Launch altitude: 350 m above sea level
- Coordinates: N49° 37' 19.6" E6° 35' 40.1"
- Height difference: 150 m
- Type of launch: Ramp launch SSW-SW (200 degrees), caution with strong south winds
- Note: Park vehicles in a way that does not obstruct agricultural and forestry traffic.
- Update: In 2005, the launch site had to be relocated one parcel further.
- Update 10.12.2011: Effective immediately, paragliding flights are no longer permitted in Ockfen. The site is closed to paragliders due to the 'Amendment of the Permit for External Starts and Landings from 01.12.2011'.
Landing Zone:
- Access: Follow the same directions as for the launch site. Avoid driving directly through the village.
- Altitude: ~200 m above sea level
- Coordinates: N49° 37' 05.7" E6° 35' 47.6"
- Windsock: Available
- Hazards: Power lines during approach and crosswind landing. Woodpile and pasture fences at the end of the landing zone.
- Note: Caution with strong south winds! Generally, take off from the launch site at the level of the path below the ramp and head directly to the landing zone (strong sink over the village). Perform a right-hand landing pattern. Do not fly too far back towards the slope during the crosswind leg. Watch out for power lines! If too high on final approach, fly LEFT past the woodpile. Park cars accordingly behind the woodpile on the right side of the path.
