Description

The launch site Nätschen can be accessed via the Oberalpbahn or the chairlift (in winter) from Andermatt. This flying area is suitable for southwest wind conditions. Located at the birthplace of the 'Oldest Urner,' it is crucial to consider the pressure differences (N-S). Thermals typically start around midday, making this site interesting for cross-country flights. However, be prepared for strong valley winds from the north in Andermatt in the early afternoon. Notes: - Accessible with FOB to Nätschen station - Valley wind and associated rotor effects Hazards: - Several transport cables (check obstacle map) - Not recommended to launch with Föhn >2 HPa and strong SW winds From Andermatt to Nätschen, then approximately 300m along the road towards Guetsch (10 min). The launch site is a steep meadow. Andermatt, located in the Urseren Valley of the Swiss canton of Uri, lies at the foot of the Oberalp Pass. It has a Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn station, connecting to Disentis, Göschenen, and Zermatt. The ski area on Gemsstock (2963m) is served by a cable car and several smaller lifts, known for freeriding. Andermatt is also famous for its protected Bannwald forest, which shields the town from avalanches. The area near Andermatt at the Oberalp Pass is known for reliable updrafts, especially suitable for flying in midsummer. At Nätschen, you can enjoy soaring with SW winds. The site is accessible even in pure glide from Gemsstock, both in summer and winter. Flight: Under suitable conditions, you can attempt flights towards Chur (Disentis, Trun, Flims) or towards Fiesch. The Urseren Valley is often overflown as it lies on the Chur-Fiesch route. Difficulty: Andermatt is a challenging landing area with varying wind conditions and convergences. Landing at the valley station of the chairlift is safer than at the cable car landing site on Gemsstock. Avoid flying towards Teufelsschlucht due to cables and lack of landing options in chaotic wind conditions. Nätschen can also be a waypoint on a walk & fly journey through the Rhine Valley. You can land comfortably near the train station if the updrafts don't carry you to the Oberalp Pass and further towards Sedrun, Disentis, Trun, and Flims. Soaring conditions: Light south winds allow for soaring at Nätschen. Avoid launching during Föhn conditions. If flying from Gemsstock, be aware that SO winds at Gemsstock may differ from Bise at Nätschen. Cable Car: Andermatt Gotthard Sportbahnen AG [Andermatt Gotthard Sportbahnen](http://www.andermatt.ch) Tel. +41 (0)41/887 14 45 Launch Site: Orientation: SW Difficulty: Medium Altitude: 1880 m Coordinates: 8.6070389, 46.64464552 Walking time: 5 min From Andermatt to Nätschen, then approximately 300m along the road towards Guetsch. The launch site is a steep meadow.
