Description
Located in the Friuli region of Italy, this paragliding site offers an elevation of 860 meters with a height difference of 650 meters. It is frequently used and offers good cross-country (XC) flying possibilities. Toplanding is possible but can be challenging.
The site is known for its easy takeoff, although it can be dangerous with a north wind. It is considered one of the most beautiful flying locations in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Due to the fact that you cannot drive directly to the takeoff point, it is not very crowded. Good flying conditions can be found in all seasons. The 'Garzette' takeoff (accessible from Montenars in the locality of Jouf via CAI trail 715 for 1.5 km, then follow the signs) allows flying even when the road to Malga Cuarnan is closed due to snow. Both beginners (in the late afternoon) and experienced pilots can enjoy long flights in a stunning natural setting.
Long-distance flights towards the east, reaching as far as Stol in Slovenia and beyond, are possible and regularly done. However, XC flights towards the west are more challenging due to the large valley crossing.
The local meeting point is Bar 'STOP', which is a 5-minute walk from the landing zone. Note that the bar is closed on Thursdays.
