Description
Located in the Friuli region of Italy, this paragliding site offers exceptional cross-country (XC) opportunities for both paragliders (PG) and hang gliders (HG). The main takeoff point is frequently used and provides excellent conditions for long-distance flights, particularly towards Slovenia. Access to the takeoff is typically by car, preferably a 4x4, via the Malga Cuarnan route. When snow blocks this route, pilots can use the Garzette launch, accessible from Montenars via CAI trail 715.
The site is operational all year round, with midday flights recommended only for experienced pilots due to thermal activity. Evening flights are particularly enjoyable and suitable for beginners. The launch area is divided into three sections, accommodating takeoff directions from southeast to southwest. However, takeoffs towards the north are not advisable due to strong turbulence.
The region boasts a site record of 93.2 km, highlighting its potential for significant XC flights. Pilots can enjoy flights extending east into Slovenia, reaching destinations like Kobaridski Stol and beyond. Westward XC flights are more challenging due to large valley crossings.
Top landing is possible, and the site is known for its beautiful natural scenery. The area is less crowded due to the limited vehicle access to the takeoff point, ensuring a more serene flying experience.
For social gatherings and pilot meetups, Bar 'STOP' is the designated meeting point, located just a 5-minute walk from the landing zone (LZ). Note that the bar is closed on Thursdays.
