Description
Fronalpstock, located at an elevation of 1880 meters, offers a medium-difficulty paragliding experience with diverse launch options. The site is accessible via cable car from Morschach or funicular from Schlattli to Stoos, followed by another cable car to Fronalpstock. From the summit, it's a short walk to the launch site, which is a flat slope. Note: Do not fly during Föhn conditions.
The launch site faces south and is situated about 400 meters south of the summit, reachable in approximately 10 minutes. The area is a flat meadow, ideal for takeoff in moderate south-southeast winds (up to 15 km/h). Be cautious of potential rotor effects when flying into strong thermals.
Fronalpstock is particularly favorable in Bise conditions, though it is not known for strong thermal activity. The site offers impressive views and flights along the cliffs towards Urmiberg near Brunnen, Morschach, or even towards Rütli for experienced pilots. Despite the cliffside launches, the takeoff areas are spacious, but good launch technique is essential.
Weather and wind conditions can change rapidly here. Always observe the sailboats for wind changes and avoid flying during Föhn or even Föhn tendencies. Additionally, be aware of a 16kV power line near the launch and landing areas, which can be difficult to see, especially in the evening.
