Description
Located in the Valais region of Switzerland, this paragliding site offers a launch altitude of 2510 meters. It is a popular spot for cross-country flights, especially from mid-March to early June. The site has logged some of the best flights during this period. It also serves as a waypoint for long flights originating from Fiesch.
To reach the launch site, take the gondola from Crans to Bella Lui. From Bella Lui, it's a 10-minute walk to the launch area, which is a moderately steep grassy slope with some rocky sections. The launch window is influenced by the local wind system, and the site is oriented in multiple directions: NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW. The difficulty level is considered medium.
The area is well-developed with cable cars, making it easily accessible. The stunning scenery, including views of Mont Rosa, Dent Blanche, and the Matterhorn, makes it a fantastic location for competitions. The thermals here can be strong, with the cloud base reaching over 4000 meters in summer, which might be challenging for beginners. However, the site is less demanding in winter, making it suitable for less experienced pilots.
There are no official landing zones in the valley below. However, landing at Langer Kerbensee is possible. The landing altitude is approximately 1400 meters above sea level, near the Crans golf course. Be cautious of the Sion airport/CTR.
