Description
Campogrosso Takeoff: Located at 45:43.758 N, 011:10.766 E, at an altitude of 1470 meters, facing southeast. To reach the takeoff point, drive from Recoaro for 5-7 km to the Campogrosso pass. About 200 meters before the mountain hut, turn right, continue for another 400 meters, and park when the road turns left and you can see the valley. The takeoff is 50 meters to the right.
This site is mostly used in the summer or for early morning and late afternoon flights. It's a wonderful place to relax, although the takeoff area is a bit small and short.
Landing Options:
1. Along the road to La Guardia, past the village of Merendaore, there is a field at 45.7161611 N, 11.1982778 E. If the grass is long, fold your wing on the street.
2. Down in the valley floor, another field is located at 45:42.090 N, 011:12.264 E near the bar 'Giorgetti'. If the grass is high, land on the riverside or on the soccer field on the other side of the river.
Getting There:
Recoaro Terme is accessible by car, taking about 1.5 hours from Venice, a little over an hour from Bassano, Verona, Trento, or the Garda Lake. By train, travel to Vicenza and then take a bus for another hour to Recoaro.
Comments:
This is a beautiful place to fly, not crowded, with mountain thermal flying that is less challenging than in the big Dolomites. There are great possibilities for cross-country flights in almost all directions, with a classic route to Bassano being 50 km. This takeoff is featured in the movie 'Never Ending Thermal'.
Weather Hazards:
North wind can be dangerous and prevent flying if strong. If light, it can provide good flying conditions. At this takeoff, you can easily notice if the north wind is too strong.

Tourism:
The area is great for walking, climbing, mountain biking, skiing, and cross-country skiing in winter. There are thermal waters (pleasant in the summer) and many festivals.
