Butser Hill, located in the UK, offers a medium-altitude paragliding experience at 232 meters. This site is regularly used for soaring and thermal flying, with some potential for cross-country flights. The primary takeoff direction is west, with the NNW direction being rarely used. However, it is important to note that this site is known for its turbulence.
Access to Butser Hill is restricted to members of the Sky Surfing Club (SSC) or those from clubs with a reciprocal agreement with SSC. Visitors and guests are not permitted. Additionally, pilots must contact the farmer before flying.
Butser Hill features multiple bowls and faces, providing good bottom landing options and accommodating various wind directions, including West, North, North East, and South. However, due to its complex shape, it is not ideal for ridge lift or strong thermals. Sea breezes can also affect thermal conditions in the early afternoon.
The hill is part of the Queen Elizabeth II Country Park. The site record for the longest flight is 132.4 km.

Access to Butser Hill is straightforward. From the south, travel north on the A3(M) and turn off at the Clanfield signpost. Follow the National Trust signs to Butser Hill, passing Hog’s Lodge pub, and continue uphill to the pay car park. Be aware that the car park is closed to incoming vehicles after 8:00 pm, and non-ticketed cars will be fined. Due to theft risks, do not leave valuables in your car.
Parking rules are strict: only park in designated areas. The hilltop and slopes are sometimes grazed by sheep, so dogs must be kept under control, and any mess must be cleaned up.
Butser Hill is popular with walkers, kite fliers, and aeromodellers. Pilots must be exceptionally considerate to avoid conflicts with other users, as any incidents could jeopardize the use of the site. The SSC has a formal agreement with Hampshire County Council for the use of the hill, and good management by the club has been crucial in maintaining access.
