Paragliding Arran Thundergay High Takeoff

Thunderguy is a paragliding site with a takeoff height of 551 meters, suitable for experienced pilots due to its strong NW wind conditions. For parking, use the coordinates 55.6667 N, 5.3729 W. The parking area for both Thunderguy and Coirein Lochain is located at grid reference NR 880 466, on the shore side of the road near a sign for the footpath to Coirein Lochain. Follow this footpath to reach the takeoff points. For the lower takeoff at Thunderguy, leave the path directly after the houses and ascend the hill. The takeoff is at the top of a steep bank at grid reference NR 886 465. The top landing area is good, while the bottom landing is on the gravel shore near the mouth of a small burn at grid reference NR 880 469. Although there are fields available for landing, it is advised to avoid them as the farmer prefers not to have landings there. For the higher takeoff, continue on the path all the way to the loch, then turn right and ascend the shoulder to the takeoff area at grid reference NR 899 452. The bottom landing remains the same as for the lower takeoff, and cross-country (XC) flying is possible in both directions along the coast.
