Best Conditions
Description
Located in Oregon, USA, this paragliding site sits at an elevation of 1873 meters (6100 feet) with a height difference of 380 meters. It is occasionally used and offers opportunities for thermalling and cross-country (XC) flights.
To access the launch, take the first main left turn after the Y, just after a cattleguard. Follow the road until it curves around up to the radio towers. Park your vehicle here and walk to just below the top of the next peak to the west, where you'll find a small cleared area suitable for launching. This site works best with south or southwest winds, ideally between 125-160 degrees.
Flying conditions are acceptable with south or southwest winds ranging from 0-15 km/h for general flying, light and variable winds for thermalling, and 9-14 km/h for soaring.
There are a few trees on the slope around the launch area, so be cautious. The landing zone consists of wide-open clearings in the desert with no obstacles, making it a safe spot for landing.
For parking, you can leave your vehicle by the radio towers. Hiking back up to your car or top landing are the best options for retrieval.
