Conditions Optimales
Description
This site in Sintra, Portugal, features a hill with an elevation difference of 229-243 meters, making it suitable for easy paragliding. The hill is not very high and is bordered on the right by a high voltage pole (be cautious as the cables are not visible) and on the left by eucalyptus trees. In front, there are several fields, with the first one after the road, which has a house in ruins, being the usual landing spot.
There are two take-off points: one lower and one at the top of the hill. The hill forms a ridge, so it's important to monitor wind speed to avoid being pushed leeward, which can be dangerous. This site is thermodynamic, with cycles that tend to come in forcefully and flow through the tips of the hill, near the high voltage cables (not recommended) and the eucalyptus trees. It is commonly used for training in weak conditions and is good for short flights.
Access to the take-off points is on foot via some well-hidden trails. Note that the base of the hill is cultivated, and to maintain good relations with the landowner, it is advisable to go around the cultivated areas.
Flying is strictly prohibited during the operating hours of the nearby Air Base, which is until 5 pm on weekdays.
