Access the launch site via the cable car from the end of the Engstligen Valley to Engstligenalp. The take-off area is a moderately steep meadow.
The area is less frequented during the summer, offering an alternative to 'Schwandfeldspitz,' the second flying mountain of Adelboden. Due to the orientation of the flying area, soaring and gliding flights to Adelboden are more common. Cross-country flights are generally not initiated from Engstligenalp.
Engstligenalp is the largest high plateau in the western Swiss Alps, located south of Adelboden at an elevation of 1900 - 2000 m. Since 1996, it has been recognized as a cultural landscape of national significance.
The plateau is bordered to the north by the Fitzer (2458 m), to the west by the Ammertenspitz, and to the southwest by the dominant Wildstrubel (3240 m). To the east, it connects to Steghorn, Tierhörnli, Chindbettihorn, Engstligengrat, and Tschingellochtighorn. The Ärtelengrat forms the northeastern boundary towards Alp Hinterengstligen.
The valley floor is an oval-shaped flat alpine pasture, extending 1 km north-south and 2 km east-west.
Access from the north is via a path blasted into the rock through the 600 m high cliff next to the Engstligen Falls.
