Surf Abalolo Reef

Abalolo Reef - South Shore, Hawaii Abalolo Reef features a powerful right-hand reef break characterized by hollow, fast barrels and sharp coral bottom. The wave works at all tides, with optimal conditions during rising and falling tides, particularly when the swell comes from the South or SouthWest and the wind from the North or NorthEast. Accessing this spot requires a long paddle from Sand Island, or alternatively, a kayak is recommended to avoid fatigue. The wave is known for its challenging nature, with a deep shark-infested channel to navigate. While the right offers thrilling rides, the left side closes out quickly, leading to dangerous shallow areas filled with sea urchins. The atmosphere is typically empty during the week, with only a few surfers on weekends, making it an ideal spot for those seeking adventure in a less crowded environment. However, caution is advised due to the presence of sharp rocks, rips, and marine life.
