Surf Reef Runway

Reef Runway - Oahu, Hawaii Reef Runway features powerful, hollow waves breaking both right and left over a rocky coral bottom. The spot is accessible primarily by boat or through military base access, requiring a long walk (over 30 minutes) to reach the surf. Ideal conditions occur with a 6-foot south/southwest swell at mid to high tide. This surf spot is renowned for its long rides, with some of the longest lefts and rights in Hawaii. While it can be less crowded during the week, expect a few surfers on weekends. The best sessions happen when light winds coincide with solid swells, creating fun and challenging waves. However, caution is advised due to potential dangers like urchins, rocks, and sharks. The area is favored by experienced surfers, particularly military personnel, but localism is minimal, making it a welcoming environment for skilled riders.
