Craigie Rd, Mt Martha is currently closed due to concerns about potential land slippage. The local council is working on resolving this issue. Until further notice, please refrain from flying at this site. This coastal cliff site, located 100 feet (30 meters) above sea level, is suitable for advanced pilots and is oriented WSW-WNW. The takeoff area is a grassed, fenced-off section behind the car park at the end of Morrisons Rd. For hang gliders, landing options include the beach at Mt Martha (2 km south of takeoff) or the beach around the point to the right of takeoff, accessible via a steep track. Experienced paragliders may land on top at the takeoff area under appropriate conditions. There is no suitable landing area below the takeoff for emergency landings, so it's crucial to be conservative when assessing takeoff conditions. Be aware of the point immediately to the right of takeoff, as wind from the north can create turbulence. The wind typically comes from the left, and pilots should be cautious of dropping the left wingtip during takeoff. The site is sensitive, and the local council is not particularly supportive of flying activities here. Always be polite and careful. Monitor the wind lines closely, as winds on the bay tend to shift more southerly over time. You should be able to anticipate this change and reach the appropriate landing area before the wind shift occurs. One notable feature of this site is the resident magpies near the Dava pub. These birds may fly up to attack the trailing edge of your sail but do not cause any damage. In certain wind conditions, it is possible to take a one-way trip down to Mornington beach.
